ATI Led-Programs

ATI's collaborative research model can be applied to many challenges. Our efforts are currently concentrated in the following domains:

MARITIME TECHNOLOGIES - Lowering the cost of Navy ships through innovations in shipbuilding and repair; Applying high-strength, low-weight composite materials to make components lighter, faster and more wear-resistant

ADVANCED MATERIALS - Applying composite materials to reduce costs and improve performance; Conducting applied research in copper and vanadium to reduce the cost and increase the reliability of defense components; Leading development of technologies to support rapid supply of mission-critical cast and forged metal defense parts

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY - Promoting economic growth built around emerging alternative energy technologies; Fuel cells, hydrogen power, and manufacturing efficiencies are key focus areas.

ORDNANCE - Managing the business operations of a national consortium executing a $700M DoD munitions technology development program

HEALTH and BIOSCIENCE - Advancing health sciences, treatment and prevention, nutrition, and electronic medical records

TECHNOLOGY SERVICES and SOLUTIONS - Leading the development and application of standards to enable accurate electronic exchange of information between organizations, industries and computer systems; Increasing the efficiency of supply chain integration, engineering analysis, and military command and control; Developing and delivering DoD EMALL, an online ordering system that ensures rapid resupply of defense goods and services

MARITIME TECHNOLOGIES
The Center for Naval Shipbuilding Technology is the Navy ManTech Center of Excellence, chartered by the Office of Naval Research to identify, develop and deploy, in U.S. shipyards, advanced manufacturing technologies that will reduce the cost and time to build and repair Navy ships. ATI manages CNST under a contract with the Office of Naval Research.

The Seabasing Future Naval Capability develops technologies in support of the Navy's emerging Seabasing approach. Seabasing enhances maneuver ashore by providing advanced command and control; long range, high volume, precise fire support; and vital logistical support from the sea. The indefinite sustainment offered by seabasing is critical in anti-access situations where there are no U.S. advance bases, friendly ports, or airfields.

ADVANCED MATERIALS
ATI leads an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Center of Excellence developing composites technologies for Naval platforms. Composites are engineered materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level within the finished structure. ATI’s 30 industry partners develop composite technologies for Defense applications, such as high-performance airframes for aircraft and missiles, weight-saving and corrosion-resistant structures for ships and submarines, and lighter, smaller, more agile land vehicles.

The STAR (Scanning Technology for Accelerating RESET) Program was initiated by the Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) to help the Army meet the RESET Mission. The program evaluated the feasibility and benefits of 3-dimensional (3D) laser scanning technology to address Reverse Engineering (RE) and Quality Assurance (QA) processes in a manufacturing environment. The program addressed this challenge by integrating laser scanning technology with current manufacturing processes in use at the Anniston Army Depot (ANAD).

ATI played a lead role in the development and implementation of DOD EMALL, an online purchasing site for the Department of Defense that processes and delivers over 100,000 orders per year. EMALL integrates disparate order fulfillment sources and contract vehicles to provide the user with a single-point-purchase interface for catalog and non-catalog items. Warfighters using a government-issued credit card can order practically anything online and have it direct shipped without the nuances of the individual burden of the dealing with the various supply sources.
